Sharon & Gary left about 9 this morning & it was hard to see them go; I think Sharon would have loved to stay longer & we certainly would have liked them here longer. We had a fun time together & have some memories that we will treasure forever. Abientot! Last night we went to dinner at Cave A Vins Restaurant around the corner on rue de la Columbe. It's in the most photographed house in Paris & we first ate there in 1992 when it was La Columbe and we were sent by a chef in Southern California who had worked there. He gave us a note for the owner & she sent one back to him & treated us royally. It closed shortly after that & was shuttered for many years. Then, when we were here in 2009 it was a wine shop. It's now a wine shop & restaurant & is always packed so we thought we'd try it. It has 6 tables & the kitchen in the front & 4 tables in the back. Very small menu, other than Quiches, and all on chalkboards. It appears that the chef prepares the days menu early and then reheats the dishes before serving in several microwaves and a giant toaster oven. Amazingly, the food was very good & the place was packed, elbow to elbow, as usual. I had tomatoes, anchovies & olives as a starter and Gary & Sharon shared a green salad with warm goat cheese. For our main course, the three of us had roasted chicken (leg & thigh) with a wine sauce and rice with haricort vert, pimento and asparagus mixed in. Peter had sauteed beef, which looked and tasted like beef bourginon, with the same rice. Sharon & I shared a pear & chocolate pie for dessert; the crust was puff pastry and it was more like a tart than pie & very good. Peter had apple sorbet- it was pale green and really intense in flavor, which was that of green apples. We had their wine of the day, a nice Cab from Fronsac & really reasonable at 19.50 euros per bottle. Thanks for dinner Sharon & Gary and, thanks again for joining us in Paris.
Haven't made any special plans for today-will take it easy & walk around the area, maybe Saint Germaine, as we need to store up energy for the next week. Really excited about Greer & Anthony arriving tomorrow.
Thank you Suki & Peter, again, for letting us share your apartment. We are really going through Paris withdrawal, and wish we were still there. Have a fabulous time with Greer and Anthony!
